Definition

Noun

  • The natural movement of air relative to the planet’s surface.

Origin

Probably earlier than the 11th century. Intact from Old English and Old Saxon. The Old Norse word was windr, meaning wind or winds.

Comments

Self-explanatory. It’s what blows and moves ships under sail. It also creates waves and destroys buildings if too strong.
