Definition

Adjective

  • Any line or gear that isn’t often in use or doesn’t move.

Origin

Early 18th century. Probably either from the Low German word, lasich, or the Dutch word, leuzig, both implying waiting.

Comments

This is distinct from gear adrift, which is any unstowed equipment that is poorly organized.
