Definition

Verb

  • To make fast, to fasten securely, to cease.

Origin

Probably earlier than the early 17th century. From the Latin word securare.

Comments

Maybe more of a shipboard term than a landlubber term. Secure could mean anything from fastening a line to turning off the coffee maker.
