Definition

Adjective

  • A general term for gear when it’s stowed in its proper place or ready for sea.

Origin

Probably earlier than the 17th century. From the Old English word, hom, of the same meaning.

Comments

Fairly self-explanatory. Gear that is in its home creates a clean and orderly space that is shipshape.
