Definition

Verb

  • Older term for a mast that has worked loose from its wedges on the deck.

Origin

Probably earlier than the 17th century. From Old French, fiche, meaning fix.

Comments

Obviously not a good thing to happen to the mast. You don’t want the vessel to be dismasted.
